Drill #1: Form Shooting

Drill #1: Form Shooting

  • Stand one meter back from the front of the basket.
  • BEEF
  • Balance: Make sure your feet are spread apart and almost in line with your shoulders.
  • Elbow: Turn your shooting arm into a 90° angle or into the shape of an L.
  • Eyes: Find your target. Front or back of the basket.
  • Follow Through: After shooting the ball, make sure your elbow is above your eye level, your arm is straight, and your hand turns into a “goose neck”.
  • Repeat 10 times from 3 spots (All one meter from the basket).

Key Points:

  1. Try with one hand before adding your opposite hand to the side of the ball.
  2. Keep the ball on your fingertips. Not your palm.
  3. Make sure your foot that is the same as your dominant hand is a little more in front of your other foot. 
  4. Do not rush the drill.

What You Need:

  1. A basketball.
  2. A regulation basket.

Drill #2: Spot Shooting (Mid-Range)

Drill #2: Spot Shooting (Mid-Range)

  • Stand 12-15 feet (4-5 meters) from the basket. 
  • Flick the ball to yourself and step into your shot.
  • Focus on BEEF.
  • Shoot 10 shots from 5 spots. 

Key Points:

  1. Use your legs on your jump shot.
  2. Find your target.
  3. Slowly step into your shot then get quicker with confidence.
  4. Practice the correct form to gain confidence and consistency.

What You Need:

  1. A basketball.
  2. A regulation basketball hoop. 
  3. If necessary: Cones

Spot shooting mid range

Drill #3: Free Throws

Drill #3: Free Throws 

  • Create your own free throw routine.
  • BEEF.
  • Shoot 10 free throws.

Key Points:

  1. Practice game scenarios.
  2. Focus on your target and breathing.
  3. Complete free throws in between drills.

What You Need:

  1. A basketball.
  2. A regulation basket.
  3. A regulation free throw line.
