WHAT IS YOUR PREPARATION TOWARDS A SEASON?
My preparation for each season revolves around staying on top notch condition, as well as shooting thousands of different shots over the span of 3 months that closely mimic the type of shots that I would get in a game.
WHAT IS YOUR GAME DAY ROUTINE?
My game day routine involves a big breakfast, followed by a team shoot around and then I come back home to watch a bunch of basketball related videos or old games. Usually old NBA games.
WHAT HELPS YOU FOCUS PRIOR AND DURING A CONTEST?
It is easy to stay focused in the games because I am so “into the moment” and my love for the game is still very passionate so I never lose my focus when in competition.
WhEN YOU ARE AT A LOW POINT OR SLUMP DURING A SEASON, WHO AND WHAT GETS YOU OVER THE HURDLE?
When I am in a slump, I remind myself of all the work I have put in during the off-season, so if things are not going how I would like, at the moment, I remind myself things will turn around for the better because each off season I do what I have always done to bring the success I have experienced so far in my career. So long story short, I trust my work in the long haul.
WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU HAVE RECEIVED THAT STICKS WITH YOU THROUGH TOUGH TIMES?
The best advice I have been given for a tough time is that “no storm lasts forever, so in the end, you can’t stop the sun from shining”.
DURING A CONTEST, WHEN THE GAME IS GOING AGAINST YOU, WHAT HELPS YOU REST AND REFOCUS?
When things are not going my way in life, or in basketball, I remember the best advice (above) that was given to me as it is one of the creeds I live by.
ANY ADVICE FOR THE FUTURE PROFESSIONALS THAT MAY READ THIS CONVERSATION?
For any future pros, my advice would be to understand along your journey, life will test you with many obstacles. However, they are not obstacles to stop you from what you want to achieve, rather it is an opportunity to show yourself, and life, how bad you really want it.
Even once you do become a pro, there still will be highs and lows that come along with the profession, but never forget why you first started to play the game. Through thick and thin, stay true to your work, and no matter how tough things get, or how “bad“ they may seem, things will turn around for the better, eventually, because in the end, you cannot stop the sun from shining!
